Glendora, Los Angeles County
George Whitcomb, a Chicago manufacturer, founded Glendora in 1887 and made up the name by combining glen with Leadora, the name of his wife. The town calls itself the Pride of the Foothills. Near downtown, a row of palm trees draped in bougainvillea vines planted in 1901 is a state historic landmark, the largest growth of the plant in the country.
